Treasure Maps: Sketches of Photography Walks

I make rough pencil sketches of the many wonderful places I have walked with my camera, they are my treasure maps, reminding me of where I have been and giving me the inspiration for my next adventure

If you are a photographer, then you're already a treasure hunter

In the movie Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Indiana, the hero, is about to head off on a journey to a place called ‘Shankara’, when his young sidekick asks him ‘what’s at Shankara’, and Indiana replies “fortune and glory, Kid, fortune and glory”.

Looking for treasure (fortune and glory) is the theme of the Indiana Jones movies, and each adventure is full of discovery and uncertainty. As a photographer our treasure, our fortune and glory, is the experience and images we cherish, we are hunting for something special on each photography walk, our treasure as photographers is to see and capture extraordinary and inspiring moments.

I make pencil sketches of the many wonderful places that I have walked with my camera, they are my treasure maps, reminding me of where I have been and giving me the inspiration for my next adventure.

....and If you asked me "what's there, Dean", then I would reply "fortune and glory"!

These are digital sketches I have created, whilst this method takes longer than a pencil sketch, it's another great way to develop your editing, design and digital artwork skills.
